The IPERS Plan is a defined benefit plan that bases benefits on a formula that includes earnings and years of service. Benefits are safe and secure, and not affected by market fluctuations. Members get a guaranteed lifetime retirement benefit, regardless of investment returns. However, investments provide the largest percentage of income to IPERS and are essential to IPERS’ overall financial health.
