When to Request an Estimate

  1. Within 3 years of planned retirement
  2. Age 69½ or older, or
  3. Retiring because of disability

Please Review: IPERS benefits may begin as early as age 55 or before age 55 if you are vested and meet IPERS’ disability provisions. A benefit estimate will outline the options available to you and approximate monthly benefit amounts. IPERS strongly recommends that you consider all your options at least a year or two before terminating your employment. Remember, the information you receive is an estimate only.

Benefits may change from time to time because of changes in the law. Please carefully review all information and newsletters you receive from IPERS. Make regular contacts with IPERS as you approach your retirement to ensure you have current information and can begin benefits timely.

IPERS encourages you to file your completed benefit application 60 days before your first month of entitlement. Benefits can begin no sooner than the month your completed benefit application is received and approved by the IPERS office. It’s your responsibility to file timely.

It is also important that you understand the eligibility requirements for IPERS benefits before requesting an estimate. These are detailed in the IPERS Member Handbook.
