CEO Donna M. Mueller Reconfirmed by Iowa Senate

(DES MOINES) – Donna M. Mueller, chief executive officer of IPERS, was reconfirmed by the Iowa Senate March 26, 2012.

The reconfirmation comes after Governor Terry E. Branstad reappointed Ms. Mueller. Earlier this year, Ms. Mueller was recommended by the Benefits Advisory Committee and Investment Board to Governor Branstad for reappointment.

The reconfirmation required a two-thirds vote in the Senate. All 50 senators were present and voted to reconfirm Ms. Mueller. The CEO’s reconfirmation marks the start of a new four-year term of office. Ms. Mueller has served as CEO of IPERS since January 2003.

IPERS is a public pension fund for employees of state and local governments in Iowa. At June 30, 2011, the IPERS Trust Fund was worth over $23 billion, with an investment return of 19.91 percent and benefit payments totaling over $1.4 billion in fiscal year 2011. Nearly $1.3 billion in benefits was paid to retirees in Iowa.
